If I had to shoot one subject for the rest of my life, It would be cocktails.
If I were allowed to expand that choice, it would be drinks of all kinds– coffee, tea, juice, soda, you name it, I’ll enjoy shooting it. There’s a simple beauty to the entire process of making and shooting cocktails. The recipes are carefully crafted so that the beverage is both visually pleasing and tasty. Love is involved every step of the way, and at the end, you have a gorgeous product to showcase and share with people.
All that lofty art aside, on a human level, cocktails are both social and deeply personal. What you choose to drink can define the person you are, or the person you want people to think you are. There are stories behind the creation of each drink, the bartenders who developed them, and the people who choose to drink them. If you listen closely, or trace their roots back through faded pages of discarded cocktail books, you’d be surprised at how in-depth and rich their histories can be.
All of the drinks I chose to highlight here are an art form in themselves, visually and flavorfully, and the lens has captured their inherent beauty. If you want more, have a gander at my flickr page, or check out the Cocktail Database I created for Austin360.com. I designed it, took 95% of the photos, and you can find recipes in there too. I am happy to share them with you. Cheers.
